What would happen if we completely closed US borders, except for those with postgraduate (+) education?

To be perfectly honest, I don’t see what people with little education, or who can only preform medial jobs, have to offer to society. We already have US citizens who have trouble finding such jobs.

I understand people with higher education can offer unique insight and views into international matters, have unique skills, etc.

This is only about legal immigrants.
EdW, this question pertains to legal immigration, which I have already stated.

My point was I don’t see a benefit in allowing anyone to immigrate into the US legally if they have nothing to contribute to society.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

That is why we let everyone in.

I think McDonald’s would go out of business.

If we could get rid of all the America-haters and the illegal aliens as well, that would be a major improvement and a step in the right direction.

I’d rather have some people with real skills than a bunch of thinktards…..

We should import Israel’s "break the bone" policy. You catch them, you harm them then send them back limping. If you’re illegal then you have no rights.

There’d be hundreds of tunnels instead of just a couple of dozen.

The compassionate liberals would whine and cry, and then they would "demonstrate."

c’mon…intelligence and education is relevant on the situation. Education is a wonderful thing…..but, I don’t believe I want my heart surgeon working on my hot water tank.

I’ve wondered this, also. I guess things can be worse in other countries than we imagined.

I agree with you. America would be a much more intelligent country if we restrict some of the less educated aliens. However, a lot of menial labor jobs and blue collar jobs are taken by outsiders

CLOSE OUR BORDERS to al illegals.Don’t pick and choose CLOSE THE BORDERS to all illegals. I know Im in a rant, but this is a designed internal problem achieved by our government to move us into socialism then New World Order then total Dictatorial Control. WE MUST STOP THIS.

Actually, I think that is (almost) our official policy now.

I have a friend who is British and has wanted to move here for years. He can’t though because he can only get a tourist visa for 6 months at a time. While here on a tourist visa, he can’t legally work. And this is a guy who, although he doesn’t hold a postgraduate degree, at least speaks English and could quickly become a tax-paying, contributing member of US society.

I have an Egyptian friend who did move here, and he told me that he had to prove he had $60,000 in the bank AND have an American family "sponsor" him.

The only people who come in legally with no problems are people who are independently wealthy and don’t need to work, or they are highly skilled w/ postgraduate degrees in subjects that are useful to the US (like medical doctors or scientists).

Illegal immigration is where the unskilled, poor people come in. And we should be controlling it, but it isn’t their fault that our government isn’t enforcing the laws effectively. They are just trying to improve their lives.

Believe it or not, we used to do something like that. We only accepted immigrants we needed. We should definitely should give preference to immigrants with skills we need.
