Shashindra Rajapakse gears to bring spring to Uva.26.08.2009-ITN News Sri Lanka

The new Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council Shashindra Rajapaksa umed duties this morning.
He umed office in the midst of religious observances. The Ven. Aluthwewe Sorata thera conducted the religious observances. Ministers Nimal Siripala De Silva, Chamal Rajapaksa, Dilan Perera and Arumugam Thondaman were present. Former Chief Minister Vijith Vijithamuni Soysa was also present. The new Chief Minister and his Cabinet took oaths before the President recently.

Shashindra Rajapaksa secured the highest number of preferential votes from the Moneragala District. It was 136,697. He obtained an Honorary Degree in Political Science from the Delhi University and is a Post Graduate on Business Management of the Colombo University. Shashindra Rajapaksa served as the Private Secretary when Mahinda Rajapaksa was the Opposition Leader and the Prime Minister. He was appointed as the Private Secretary after the President umed office. He renders yeoman service as the Basnayaka Nilame of the Kataragama Devale.
