Is it point less to pursue my career in medicine at a certain age?
I’m 21 this year, next year I will be 22. I’ll be studying nursing next year which is for 3 years and then apply for medicine as a postgraduate so I can be a surgeon. You’re probably wondering why not get into medicine straight away? because in Australia there’s a new system, in order for us to get into medicine we have to study a science course for 3 years at uni, doesn’t matter what course just as long we get HD’s and D’s and then sit a GAMSAT test and then we will be considered for an interview to see if we are competent or not.
So basically for me it would me
3 years – Nursing
6 years- Medicine
4 years- specialising in heart surgeries (cardiothoracic surgeon)
altogther 13 years of studying I will be 35 years old by the time I complete and then I’ll be in a huge debt. trying to pay off. I’m just being realistic about all this. I sound so negative and I shouldn’t be. But I want to save lives and I want to be a somebody and also money is important to me. I would like to earn a great deal of money I guess everyone does. My only motive is to go to 3rd world countries and help women and children because they lack female doctors.
I just want to hear other people’s opinions thats all
either good or bad
Just do it… ou will be studying a subject you love and will finish with tools of trade you want to use .. age really has nothing to do with it..
you think 35 sounds pretty sucky to be starting out on a career but i think 35 is just a baby.. its just a head thing.
i have known woman who have gone to university in their 70′s not for any other reason than they wanted to study the subject… and they were happy and fulfilled for having done it.
its your life and you can do what you want with it… who said you have to fit the patterns of your peers…just do what you think will work for YOU
do it

If you think you can pass all the work, testing, and interviews – then do it. Good luck.

you are a sweet heart, don’t put your life at risk in these 3rd world countries. I know you have a big heart and are a beautiful person deep inside. You remind me of how people are so thoughtful and life saving, then you have people in 3rd world countries that are causeing illness to their people while they stay rich. Also in 3rd world countries you always hear some violent news about, for example, how an Muslim terrorist strikes innocent humble people at any time. Stay in Austrailia, get a career, but always love your counrty. Sometimes its a never ending battle, and if you embark on such a battle, be ready for real life stress and upsets. Good luck and all the best.

i personally follow the practice and preaching of natural and holistic healing. I would not endorse drug usage unless life saving. Surgeons are great people.
You can study at any age for a medical field (IMO). But what about your marriage? Think about your family also? I think it would be good idea if you go to 3rd world countries and do your course here. I am from India. As far as I know to become a surgeon it is
10th Class
+2 years (Inter) foundation course.
+4 years & 1 year (for intern ship)
+2 years for md (master of doctrine) specialization.
another choice is
10th Class (high school completion)
+2 years (Inter) foundation course.
+3 years graduation (b.sc nursing)
+2 years apprentice ship
with this you cannot become a surgeon as you wish.
But, in my opinion it would be better if you contact the universities or colleges in India the cost is low I guess compared to australia (i’ve a friend over there). I will let you know more details on Friday as I’ve to move to my head office on official trip. Catch you later.

from the age of 21 to 35 lots of things happen to change our perspectives. You need to consider relationships and kids during that time. Are you thinking of not having these until after you qualify ?
Your thoughts are very noble and it would be a great thing to do…if you have the strength to endure it to the end. Only someone who knows you very well and your past experiences can tell you that.
If you have some one close to you who you respect then you should talk to them about this issue.
Good luck
