studying for one hour at a time is fine, just try to gradually reduce the length of the breaks down to around 15-20minutes… as you get into it you’ll find your concentration improves!

I’d say 80% of the …
I’d say 80% of the tests I took were multiple choice. Occasionally they’d have one or two short essay questions at the end.

I only ever had one prof who gave full essay exams, and he’d worked at Oxford previously :) (best class I ever took though).

It always amazed me how many people just didn’t come to class. It’s so wasteful and irresponsible! But maybe they had more fun that I did in college :D

LiveAndLetDiceJuly 4th, 2009 at 3:29 am

yea, i did all the …
yea, i did all the time… before my finals i was revising for like 10hours a day for over a month (no idea how, just got into a good routine!) and I’d take about 3-4 naps a day in there… I have the smudges on my notes to prove it where I drooled…ok, too much info!

My uni exams were …
My uni exams were typically answer 5/8 short answer qs (around 300 words each), then 2-3 essays which were always a killer!
I always felt attending all the classes was the least I could do, especially considering the fees I was paying…and like you say, they often give out hints! in final year the lecture content was the bare minimum though, you really had to through in some extra reading knowledge in the exams to get the good marks…

kalawayJuly 4th, 2009 at 3:29 am

Some great tips, …
Some great tips, but it really showed how different exams in the UK are. Essay exams were fairly uncommon when I was in college, & I don’t think there was ever past tests available.

I always found the most important thing in doing well was attending every single class & knowing what type of prof you were dealing with. Most give subtle hints (or unsubtle :) ) of what will be on exams & what they find important. You can even use your own questions in class to clarify what they find most essential.
