Can you teach at the college/junior college level with a postgraduate diploma?

I’ve recently received a postgraduate diploma in English and want to know what my options are or if I will have to pursue more school.

In the US, you need at least a masters degree in your field to teach at the 2-year college level and a PhD to teach at the 4-year college or university level.

above is true, however

you can also teach at a 2 or 4 year university without a masters degree if you are enrolled in that school as a graduate student, but don’t expect to be allowed to teach anything but the 1101 (intro) class i your field

I talked with a counselor at my school about this same issue because I want to teach at a university and she told me that to teach at a community college I need to get a masters in whatever I want to teach and a PHD if I want to teach at a 4 year university.
