Can anyone offer advice on Postgraduate Study at the University of Edinburgh?
I am an American, 30 years of age, preparing to finish a career via early retirement, and now I want to study Archaeology, specifically Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. Can anyone offer my any advice about the University? About my program? About Edinburgh in general? I’ve heard they aren’t terribly fond of Americans there. Is this a myth? Thank you in advance for your time.
Edinburgh University is very well thought of both in Scotland (2nd or 3rd best) and in the UK in general (probably top 30), so in terms of choice of establishment I think you’ve chosen well. I’m not sure how well thought of their archaeology course is though, but unless your planning to become an archaeologist I’m not sure it matters, besides it can’t be that bad!
Edinburgh is a really nice city, it’s not overly Scottish and is aimed at tourists but I’m sure you’ll like it! Scottish people in general are very friendly – your rumour about not liking Americans is indeed a myth! Sure, its amusing to see American tourists wandering around with knee high socks, shorts, and sandals with massive cameras around their neck who don’t even try to blend in, but not liking them is a little strong!!
Good luck!
